New JPAID Managing Editor

At the end of June 2017 JPAID welcomed its new Managing Editor, Patrick Thomsen. Patrick has been appointed as a visiting professor at the Institute for Poverty Alleviation and International Development. Prior to joining JPAID, he was based at the University of Washington's Jackson School of International Studies in Seattle as a doctoral candidate and graduate instructor.

Patrick's research interests include international norm diffusion, international development, human rights, critical discourses, gender and sexuality, with regional focuses on Korea and the Pacific region. He completed his MA in international studies at Seoul National University and his BA in political science from the University of Auckland in his native of New Zealand. Patrick is of Samoan descent and holds the title of Seutaafili from the village of Tauese in Samoa.

He was previously employed by the East Asia Institute in Seoul as a research fellow and English editor.
