Announcement: 2016 Annual Prizes

JPAID Outstanding Publication Prize Winners
About the Prize
JPAID awards a US$1000 annual prize to the author(s) of an outstanding paper published in the
journal during the previous twelve months. A prize of US$500 is awarded to the runner up. The prizes are intended to encourage and recognize excellence in research related to poverty and development. The editors select the winning paper, and reserve the right not to award a first prize if no paper is
judged to be of sufficient merit. For more information, please visit our website.

First prize — Aram Ziai

Aram Ziai is Heisenberg Professor of Development and Postcolonial Studies in the Faculty of Social
Sciences at the University of Kassel, Germany.

Award: US$1000

Second prize (runner up) — John Van Benthuysen

An Assessment of International Order: Liberal Major Powers and Fragile and Failing States

John Van Benthuysen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Black Hills
State University in the United States.

Award: US$500

JPAID Prize for Early Career Researchers

Winner — Megerssa Tolessa Walo
Volume 7 Number 2
Local Institutions and Local Economic Development in Guto Gidda District, Oromia Region, Ethiopia

Megerssa Tolessa Walo received a B.Ed. degree in Geography from Dilla University and an M.A.
degree in Human Geography (Urban and Regional Planning) from Addis Ababa University in 2002 and 2007 respectively. Currently, he is a Ph.D. candidate in the Institute for Regional Development at the
University of Tasmania in Australia.

Award: US$500

Our editorial broad members and the team at JPAID warmly congratulate our winners. We wish them
all the best for their future research. We would also like to sincerely thank all of the authors who
contributed to JPAID in 2016. The quality of articles was extremely high, and selecting prize winners
from such a strong field was a very difficult task for our judges.
